It’s a straightforward mixture of 1 cup white rice, 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice, and several large squirts of food coloring. Toss everything into a Ziplock bag and zip it shut. Squish the bag to combine the ingredients.

Toss the rice with a splash of white vinegar. Add as much food coloring as you like to achieve the desired hue (deeper color = more food coloring). Shake the rice vigorously for a minute or two after covering it with plastic wrap.
