Drinking water can seem like such a bore, but it’s also beneficial to your body. You know you need to drink more, but how? The good news is that you can make getting the recommended eight glasses much easier. You just need to trick yourself a little.

Stop wondering how to drink more water easily and follow these simple tips:

Eat Your Water

That’s right. You can eat water. All you have to do is eat water-rich foods, such as the following:

  • Cucumbers
  • Salad greens
  • Grapefruit
  • Cantaloupe
  • Watermelon

All of these contain a hefty amount of water. Even though you don’t know exactly how much you’re getting, you can at least feel good about getting more water into your system from them, and watery foods are in general healthy options anyway!

Choose Spicy Foods

What do you do when you eat spicy foods? You drink water to put out the fire in your mouth. Perfect! You’ll get that water down without a problem, and you’ll have a reason to indulge in your favorite foods.

Infuse Your Water

Fill a pitcher with water and add sliced lemons, oranges, limes or whatever else you think would taste good. Let it sit for a while to infuse before drinking. Add some simple syrup to sweeten it a little if you want to make it more of a treat.

Play a Game with Friends

You’re not the only one who needs to drink more water. Actually, 50% of Americans do not drink enough of it. So bond with your fellow non-water drinkers, and start a friendly water-drinking game. Set up a goal for each day, and challenge your friends to reach that goal. The first person to reach the goal wins.

Put a Glass in the Bathroom

Every time you go to the bathroom, refill the glass with water and drink it. This way you’ll be getting water every time you eliminate it from your body. You’re in the bathroom at the sink anyway, so drink it and be on your way.

Carry a Water Bottle

When you carry a water bottle, you’ll likely start drinking from it without even thinking about it. That’s because your body and mind know you need to drink water, but because it’s not easily accessible, you don’t do it. When it’s right there in your hand or on your desk, you’re more likely to take sips all day.

Use an App

Numerous apps track how much water you’re drinking each day. Some of them will alert you when you need to have your next cup. Try some of them, and then choose the one you like best. My favorite is built into the Fitbit app, which has shortcut buttons for the most common sizes of water bottles.

Exercise Hard

When you run at top speed or lift heavy weights, you’re going to feel thirsty. Water will be the relief you’re seeking. Bring a water bottle to the gym with ice in it. Cool ice water tastes better and goes down easier.

Make Slushies

Chopped ice is water, so throw some into a slushy machine or blender. Add some flavoring or stick with fruit. This is a fun and easy way to get the water you need on hot, otherwise unbearable days.

Drink Non-Caffeinated Herbal Tea

The trick here is to choose non-caffeinated or you’ll be sabotaging your efforts in drinking more water. Caffeine depletes your body of water, so try different herbal teas until you find one you like. One of my favorites is peppermint tea.

We hope these suggestions for drinking more water will make it easier for you to get the recommended amount. Once you get into the habit of it, you may find that it’s not that difficult. You may even start to enjoy it!
